I love watching HGTV. On one of the shows they search out dilapidated houses, purchase them, as is and then methodically turn them into structures that far exceed the price that was paid for them. From start to finish it is a carefully thought out process that takes time, effort, and an entire team.
Everything starts with the visionary. The visionary is the one who has a rather creative mind and looks not so much at the mess before him or her but sees beyond the mess to the miracle. They look beyond the cracks in the foundation, holes in the wall, sinking ceiling, linking roof, faulty wiring, varmints in the attic and the smelly garbage left behind.
The process usually starts with an evaluation of what needs to be done and the visionary invites the project manager in to discuss the best possible ways to accomplish what needs to happen. Almost always there are walls that will need to come down to give the home a more “open concept.” Once everything has been decided concerning the best way to proceed the workers are then called in to start the demolition. They take out the old and unserviceable to make way for the new.
I am reminded of Ephesians 4: 17-24 (Passion Translation) 17 So with the wisdom given to me from the Lord I say: You should not live like the unbelievers around you who walk in their empty delusions.[a] 18 Their corrupted logic has been clouded because their hearts are so far from God—their blinded understanding and deep-seated moral darkness keeps them from the true knowledge of God. 19 Because of spiritual apathy, they surrender their lives to lewdness, impurity, and sexual obsession. 20 But this is not the way of life that Christ has unfolded within you. 21 If you have really experienced the Anointed One, and heard his truth, it will be seen in your life; for we know that the ultimate reality[b] is embodied in Jesus! 22 And he has taught you to let go of the lifestyle of the ancient man, [c] the old self – life, which was corrupted by sinful and deceitful desires that spring from delusions. 23 Now it’s time to be made new by every revelation that’s been given to you.[d] 24 And to be transformed as you embrace the glorious Christ-within as your new life and live in union with him! For God has re-created you all over again in his perfect righteousness, and you now belong to him in the realm of true holiness.
Maybe there are walls in our lives that have yet to be knocked down. Maybe there is a crack in the foundation. Think about this, in the natural, that house does not resist what is being done to it. It just stands and allows the transformation to take place. A little something to ponder!
