Skeletons in the closet!

We all have secrets. We all have those things that we do not want to be seen or known by others. I remember telling one of my sisters one time that we all have skeletons in our closets. She said, “Yes, and some of mine are still alive.” Skeletons are those things that if brought out into the open would cause us great embarrassment. I believe that that is probably why we work so hard to build and keep up walls around our hearts and emotions. We fasten masks so that what and who we really are cannot be readily seen. Some live-in constant fear of being exposed.

We live in a society driven by secrets. Secrets, the things that politicians do not tell us and the things that pastors hide from us. Secrets, the things that we attempt to hide from God all the while forgetting that He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent! Secret things that are shameful, disgraceful, embarrassing and damaging- He knows it all! It is no wonder that Jesus is the “Light” of the world. In God there is no darkness. There will always be things that we would prefer not talking to with others, but God is the perfect listener! He will always do what is best for all concerned with what we tell Him. He has perfect hearing, perfect listening, and perfect execution.

I remember during a time of prayer and fasting that there was something so heavy on my heart. I went into my office, closed the door, and knelt at my chair. Almost immediately I heard in my innermost being Matthew 6:6 “Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace… The Message Bible. I knew immediately that I could pour out my heart to the Father and find relief and peace without fear of harm, betrayal, or punishment. He met me with love, kindness, chastisement and understanding. He revealed me to myself.

God expects us to come into that secret place, regularly. We can count on Him to be there to meet with us. He will hear us out and He will speak to our hearts as only He can. What secret or secrets are you hiding? When those secret things are exposed, they will lose their power over you. I dare you to tell the Father!
