A couple of months ago my husband said to me, “Honey, I have taken you all around the world. Is there anything else that I can do for you? I just melted! Today Mike and I celebrate 41 years of being married. To some it may seem like a long time. But there are certainly others that have been married a whole lot longer. Today, we celebrate us!
It was 41 plus years ago that a young airman and even younger soldier met in San Antonio, Texas whose song became “Loving You” by Minnie Riperton. It was there that I first saw him at Macedonia Baptist Church, and we later met at a night club, “Daddy Warbucks”. Neither of us serving God at the time. But it was there that I fell in love with a man who would drive eight hours to visit his brother and only stay a few hours so that he could get back to me. And through the years it has been the notes that he has left on my pillow. It has been his phone calls to me just to hear my voice. It continues to be his pranks that have me laughing for more than a minute! And that unusual laugh of his that makes me laugh even harder, that is keeping us interested in each other. It has been me sitting in an ER for thirteen hours while they tried to find out what was wrong with him. It has been him sitting at my bedside while I was awaiting surgery and his face the first one that I saw after it was all over. It has been both of us weeping for and with our children when things went horrendously wrong, feeling that we had no one else in the world but each other and God. Today, we celebrate us!
He is still the finest, kindest, not so perfect but the perfect man for me man! The years may be taking their toll on the both of us, but I still call him handsome! And I am still his woman! Happy Anniversary Mike! Forty-one years and counting! Today, we celebrate us!
